Well done to all 5 swimmers who competed at this prestigious event. Higher level than a Regional, actually the best from 3 Regions came together to compete; South East, London, South West. The same was happening in Corby and Sheffield.

Alex Murphy, Shannon Motha, Jamie Goldstone, Oliver Ripley and Danny Amphlett managed to get to this event.

All coped with a long journey to Millfield School, in Glastonbury and competed in an unfamiliar 50m pool and gained amazing experience of high level competition.

Gold went to Alex Murphy (16yrs) for his 100m breaststroke.

Magnificent results from 2 galas this weekend. DBSC secured more County qualifying times and personal bests from 20 swimmers.

At the South East Regional Winter Championships in Aldershot Garrison 50m Pool, Alex Murphy (16yrs) hauled 5 golds and 1 silver medal and 2 Trophies across the 2 days.

He won Gold in the Junior (16&U) and Open 50 brst, (30.00) as well as the Junior and Open 200 brst (2.29.16) and won Gold in the Junior and Silver in the Open in the 100 brst (1.06.23). Alex has already qualified for the British Trials in March where the fastest swimmers are hoping to gain places on the GB squad for the Olympics and other major events.

At Tigersharks in Swindon, Danny Amplett (13) was ‘too fast for 1st’ and got a Speeding Ticket for 100IM (1.09.42). He also gained a trio of Golds for 100 Brst (1.20.39), 200IM ( 2.28.57 ), 100back (1.08.33).

Max Underwood (10) was also ‘too fast for 1st’ on the 200 brst and got a Speeding Ticket (3.24.97) won 3 Golds for 200 fly ( 3.19.71) and 200 back ( 3.04.24), 100IM (1.24.78) and a Silver for 50 brst (44.95).

Bethan Newland Smith (13) won Gold for 100 brst (1.26.47) and Bronze for 200 brst (3.08.13)

Freddie Wilkinson (9) won Silver for his 200IM (3.11.21)

Alec Purvis (12) gained a Bronze for 100 brst (1.37.01)

ESSA Relays No Problem For Junior Team!!

St Birinus Junior Swim Team Compete in ESSA National Relay Finals

Our junior swimmers competed in two events in the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) 2011 Secondary School Team Championships finals held on 26th September 2011 at The Quays, Southampton. ESSA was formed in 1949, initially organising swimming and diving championships for pupils in secondary schools. The sixteen fastest school teams nationwide competed in relay and medley relay finals in this 54th ESSA National Championship.

The boys taking part were Didcot Barramundi’s Oliver Beard, Edward Burrowes, Ricky Martin and Ollie Ripley. They competed really well and were placed 11th nationally in both the freestyle and medley relays, producing personal bests. Competing at this top-level is invaluable, giving the boys the confidence and poise to push their performances into the next league.

Well done Boys!!

Great Results From Barramundi Swimmers Again!

DBSC swimmers brought home the medals, personal best times and a new County Record at 2 events this weekend. The club came 12th out of 51 clubs taking part in this L1 gala.

There were great swims from all, securing not only County Times but Regional Times too from Ollie Ripley (13) and a Winter Champs time for Roshani Motha (15).

Alex Murphy (16) broke the Junior County Record for the 50 fly (26.59) winning Gold at the Aqua Sullis L1 (50m) Grand Prix in Bath. He also brought home a silver for the 50 brst (29.66) and Bronze for the 50 Back (29.74)

His brother David Murphy( 13) brought home 2 Golds for the 50brst (35.84) and the 50fly (31.14) as well as 3 bronzes for the 50free (29.24) and the 200IM (2.40.36) and the 100fly (1.14.04).

Shannon Motha (12) scooped 2 golds for her 50 fly (32.39) and 50 back (34.65).

Oliver Beard (12) gained a Bronze for the 50 brst (39.44).

Over in Bletchley at the City of Milton Keynes SC Winter Meet (L2) Danny Amphlett (14) won 3 medals, Silver for the 50 brst (35.91) and 50 backstroke as well as a Bronze for the 400IM (5.10.31).

Freddie Wilkinson (9) won Silver in the 200fly (3.29.97)

Barramundi Sisters Abroad!!

2 Barramundi sisters swam in Malt this half term, aginst Maltese clubs at their National Trials. Other UK schools were also invited. The week included 2×2hour training sessions and ran as a camp for the Maltese hopefuls.

Roshani Motha (15yrs) swam 50, 100 and 200 back, 50 free and 50 fly and won 2 golds and 1 silver in her age group.

Shannon Motha (13yrs) swam 50, 100 and 200 back 50, 100 and 200 free and won 4 golds and 1 silver.

Testament indeed to our Coach Iryna Kobzar for a job well done.

Karen Underwood and Sharon Motha and Jo Murphy have succeeded in passing their National Rescue Award For Swimming Teachers and Coaches. This allows them to support sessions pool side when a full NPLQ is not necessary. This allows them to give greater confidence to the coaches pool side as they are the 2nd pair of eyes when a session is busy and in full flow!

Well done them!!

Good Swims From Barramundis! ONB Promoted To Div 1!!!

Didcot Barramundi swimmers had great successes at separate galas last weekend

On Sunday 16th October, David Murphy (12yrs), Ollie Ripley (13yrs) and Alex Murphy (16yrs) swam for the Oxfordshire and North Bucks County Team at the British Gas National County Team Championships. The event took place at the prestigious Pond’s Forge, National Pool in Sheffield attracting 38 Counties from England, Scotland, Wales.

The 3 Barramundis helped the ONB team get into 3rd place, bettering last year’s 10th place. This result means ONB have now been promoted to Division 1 for the 1st time in many years.

Alex Murphy took Gold position in his individual 100 brst event (1.02.95) and his medley relay team took Silver position. David Murphy achieved a Personal Best in the 100 brst (1.18.82) securing good points for the team and Ollie and David’s Medley Relay team came in a magnificent 5th out of 18 teams in Division 2.

On Sat/Sun,15th/16th October, at High Wycombe 50m Pool, more medal positions and personal bests were achieved by swims from:

Cameron Beeton (10yrs) Spd Ticket 50 free; Golds 200back; 200brst; 200free; Bronze 100free

Hannah Wilson (9yrs) GOLD: 200 free (3.32.42)

Dominic Ward (11yrs) Silver – 50fly; Bronze 200back

Andrew Southam (14yrs) Bronze 50 brst

Luc Bouet, Toby and brother Ollie Mew, Kieran Agg and Freddie Wilkinson took part in Brackley Try-A-Triathlon.

BRACKLEY TRIATHLON

Luc came 1st in the 13/14 yr old category – he did a 300m swim, 6km bike ride, 2.4km run, in a time of 34mins 1 second.

Freddie came 3rd in the 9/10 yr category.

Toby came 2nd in his age group catagory 10/11

Barramundi Brings Back The Trophy!! And more….

After a fanatastic day’s competition, all our Barramundis worked hard at bringing back not only the Main Trophy but the Cannon Relay Trophy. On top of that we had a jnr County Record broken, the 100IM (59.56), by Alex Murphy who dashed back from Coventry camp to get points in the last session.

We also grabbed the Best boy/Best girl:

Charlotte Smart (1st) , Bethan Newland Smith, ( 2nd), Hannah Morgan (Aylesbury) 3rd.

Max Underwood and Joe Walker (Aylesbury) were joint 1st and David Murphy/Danny Amphlett/Ollie Ripley were joint 3rd!!!

Great to see representatives from nexus come and support the Team, Mark Trahearn (Centre manager) and Ryan (Lifeguard) cheered on the crew!

Well done all who worked poolside, behind the scenes and supported the swimmers. And of course the Coaches!!

David Walliams Gets Support From Barramundi’s Finnley Clarke!

A crowd supported David Walliams on his 3rd day of his 140 mile River Thames swim for Sport Relief, at Wallingford Bridge. Feeling unwell, David came out to say thank you to the crowd, and targeted Finnley and his sister for some personal thank yous!!

Finnley sported the Barramundi top and sweatshirt and waved a placard wishing David well. Go Finnley….!!
